Microsoft to open source a big data framework called REEF

Microsoft has now developed a Retainable Evaluator Execution Framework (REEF) that is designed to run on top of next generation resource manager of Hadoop - YARN and will be soon declare as open source.

REEF is a set of libraries with major components as evaluators which are YARN containers containing REEF services, and Activities, which are the user code that runs inside the Evaluator. REEF is designed in a way that it can iterate on a previous set of results rather than having to start anew every time. As companies are going for more and more deeper data analysis, REEF can be more helpful.
