My thoughts on e-Learning

e-learning Technology

Today, e-Learning is the need of the world. In this digital era, many sectors, departments, industry, regions, and countries are following the e-Learning concept for education, training and evaluation purposes.

e-Learning is not just limited to content alone, it goes beyond that. To understand the impact of e-Learning, let’s take an example of a movie. If you give the script of a movie or a novel to someone and ask him/her questions based on them, 99% of the people will not be able to give answers to all the questions. However, if the same novel or script is converted into a movie, the same people will be able to answer 99% of the questions. The content, context and story is all the same, but the results vary.

In my opinion, e-Learning is not just an electronic transfer of content, it is a different way of presenting and teaching content to interested learners. It is a medium of transferring knowledge, not content and syllabus.

There are three types of learners around the world.

Auditory Learners: Hear - Auditory learners prefer to listen to things being explained instead of reading about them. Repeating information aloud while listening to music in the background is a common study method. Other noises become a distraction for these types of learners.

Visual Learners: See - Visual learners are more comfortable learning from graphics or watching a PPT/Slideshow instead of simply reading stuff. For them, it’s easy to capture information by referring to charts and graphs. These types of learners have difficulty focusing while listening to an explanation.

Kinesthetic Learners: Touch - Kinesthetic learners understand best through a ‘hands-on’ or practical approach. Doing an interactive activity may be the easiest way to learn for them. These types of learners are not comfortable with a theoretical approach. Sitting still while studying may be difficult, but writing things makes it easier to understand and retain information for a long time.

e-Learning is a bunch of courses, videos, flash objects, animations, assessment tools, test series, evaluation processes which are adaptive and interactive in nature. Accessibility is a major issue in the e-Learning approach. However, something which run both online and offline can solve the accessibility issue. With the help of this approach, knowledge can be digitized and be more friendly and accessible anywhere in the world.
