The march towards a completely mobile workplace was well and truly joined last week when President Barack Obama issued a Presidential Memorandum on “Enhancing Workplace Flexibilities and Work-Life Program” as a part of its Digital Government Strategy. Given that Federal Agencies have a relatively short time to respond to the edict there is likely to be a sharp uptick in their efforts to mobilizing their workforce – the cry that has gone out is “Mobile first”. Times are set to change. Reports have said that less than 50% of Federal agencies had Mobile Device programs in place. In our view this is welcome news for mobile devices, networks and solutions providers that address such requirements. The BlackBerry 10 was first off the blocks in announcing full operational capability to run on the Department of Defense Network – perhaps not surprising given the President’s public love for the phone. As with all technology domains the Federal Government’s consumption holds out the potential of a significant bump in the business- time now for the rest of the industry to step up.
