NASA's Cloud Computing Odyssey: From Earth to Mars

Cloud computing became a hidden hero of NASA's Mars mission. It was a moment of victory for IT and engineering when NASA's Curiosity rover landed on Mars at the end of its 563 million kilometer journey. The anxiety of watching the rover's descent wasn't confined to rocket scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory; it was shared by NASA’s software engineer Khawaja Shams, a member of JPL's Operations Planning Software Lab as well, he described his experience as mentioning it as the toughest day in his career.

Microsoft is building a Touch and Speech enabled Business Intelligence tool

Microsoft's SQL Server Business Intelligence unit is looking forward to bring touch and speech-enabled product as a part of its natural-user-interface (NUI). The name of the unannounced product is InfoNavigator. According to a Microsoft job posting for a software development engineer in test, it was an incubation project funded by Microsoft’s Chairman Bill Gates, which is now transforming into a reality.
