Sibal for impetus to cloud computing

Kapil Sibal, Telecom and IT Minister of India launched the National Cloud Computing Initiative that will bring down cost of computer based services in the country and said that the draft framework for the same will be ready in three months. "In terms of software, we are perhaps most advanced in the world. We should use this opportunity and in the budget of 2013 make sure that industry is given a kind of fillip and impetus that need to be given to make cloud computing a preferential choice as we move forward with solution. The whole purpose of the cloud is cost benefit. Entity that invest in the hardware and software, provides solution from one source. Individual entrepreneur do not need separate human resource, investment in application and services," Sibal said.

Interactive Intelligence releases new version of business process automation software

Mobile market growth in the Philippines

The World Bank said that there were 101 mobile phone subscriptions for every 100 Filipinos, with prepaid subscriptions accounting for 96% of the total. The subscriber rate has increased. The subscriber rate has jumped sharply since 2005, when there were just 41 phone owners per 100 people. According to Rachel Kyte, the vice-president for sustainable development at the World Bank, mobile phones have revolutionized daily life in many communities such as the Philippines and hold the promise of even more advantages in the future.

IBM may be interested in RIM's enterprise business

IBM has made an informal approach to RIM (Research In Motion) to buy out the enterprise business that currently runs the servers RIM uses to support BlackBerrry email and messaging services. RIM's share of the global smartphone market fell to 4.8 percent in the second quarter of this year from 12 percent a year earlier as Android climbed to 68 percent and Apple slipped to 17 percent, according to research firm IDC. The enterprise business would enable IBM to add mobile services to its already extensive service offerings to large enterprises. It could also add a substantial boost to its Global Services group that pulls in half of the company’s total revenue.
