Google's Partner Program looks to get more businesses into the Cloud

Google has recently unveiled its new Google Cloud Platform Partner Program for the business trying to spread its wings in cloud computing. With this program, service and technology partners can work with Google to provide services for and extend the functionality of Google’s Cloud Platform suite of products. The Partner Program benefits from small businesses all the way up to large enterprises – get expert help to learn how they can use the cloud to their advantage. The creation of the partner program also marks another big step for Google as it seeks new revenue streams beyond advertising and search. It also puts Google on the same footing as Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and IBM, which have long-established partner programs for their various services.

SharePoint 2013, Excel 2013 previews Get BI Boost

Microsoft BI vision depends on bringing a number of Microsoft products together, including the Excel Power Pivot addition found in Office and the Power View add-in, which is part of SharePoint Reporting Services. According to a Microsoft article one new change associated with Power View and Microsoft's 2013 preview releases is that Power View's features now are available via the Excel 2013 preview, as well as SharePoint 2013,. "Many of the features now in Power View in Excel 2013 were in Power View in SharePoint 2010, and new features have been added to both," the article explains. That change now makes it possible to perform data modeling from within an Excel 2013 workbook.

Apple opens up lead on Android in enterprise mobile app dev

According to survey results released on Tuesday Apple's iOS mobile platform has amassed a substantial lead over Google's Android when it comes to which platform developers prefer for building enterprise mobile applications. Developers also are cautiously optimistic about the upcoming Windows 8 platform, which features the Metro UI geared for tablet interfaces. Sixty-eight percent are interested in Windows 8 and find Metro compelling, the survey found, and 33 percent are interested in developing for Windows 8 tablets.

VisitBritain taps Visible Technologies to monitor social media during London 2012

British tourism officials are using Visible’s Intelligence V-IQ platform, a Web-based dashboard, to measure brand mentions and sentiment during the 2012 Games. Interestingly, VisitBritain analyzed over more than half a dozen players in the UK and Europe to choose an American company based in Bellevue, Wash. Visible is also not the lowest cost option on the market. The London 2012 Games are first Olympics and Paralympics to take place after the widespread adoption of Twitter and Facebook. VisitBritain has decided to check the pulse of conversations on these social networks by using a social media monitoring enterprise tool from Visible Technologies. The tool can estimate any social-media user’s influence, similar to a Klout score, based on factors such as how many of their top peers are connected to them and how much travel-related digital activity they drive across platforms.
