“Products as a Service” or “Software as a Service” models have innate abilities to potentially scale and be cost effective for both the service owners and the consumers. They also boost the ability to effectively manage the business operations & management services. In one such instance, we have a customer with an on premise Big Data (Hadoop) based application which they were interested to offer as a Multi-tenant SaaS based solution. The customer pressed for a solution that would induce zero to minimal code changes in the existing platform’s codebase. Other specific requirements consisted of having a relatively lower cost of cloud infrastructure per customer while enabling automated on-boarding of new tenants.
Organizations that are majorly data driven and process large datasets are increasingly adopting Apache Hadoop as a potential tool. This is because of its ability to process, store and manage vast amounts of structured, unstructured or semi-structured data. Basically, Hadoop is a distributed data storage and processing platform with three core components that are the HDFS distributed file system, the MapReduce distributed processing engine running on top and the YARN (Yet Another Resource Negotiator).
The Internet of Things (IoT) has got the entire world excited. A connected ecosystem is throwing up interesting opportunities. Possibly, this is the first time non-living things can communicate with us and with each other. Kind of a fairy tale come true! No wonder then that it heads the Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Emerging technologies. Even at the recently concluded CeBIT 2015 and Hannover Messe in Germany, IoT took center stage.
