Cloud computing to become the bulk of new IT spend, predicts Gartner

After Cloud use has seen a huge growth, Gartner Inc. predicts that in the year 2016 this growth will increase to become the bulk of new IT spends. Thus naturally 2016 will be a defining year for cloud, as private cloud begins to give way to hybrid cloud, and nearly half of large enterprises will have hybrid cloud deployments by the end of 2017.

Cloud computing is described by Gartner as a style of computing in which scalable and elastic IT-enabled capabilities are delivered “as a service” using Internet technologies. It heralds an evolution of business in positive and negative ways. It has also become a hot industry term that has been used in many contradictory ways.

CIO’s should watch out, as Mobile apps found skewed internally

At the time Forrester invited large and medium-sized organizations in India to share details about their live enterprise mobility applications, here is what he had to say “Our objective was to understand how Indian organizations are leveraging mobile applications to better connect with customers, partners, and employees. In total, we received details of 59 mobile application projects from 41 organizations with more than 500 employees in India. These organizations are spread across verticals like manufacturing, financial services, automotive, media, healthcare, professional services, telecommunications, and utilities”

The research provided some interesting findings like mobile application development is skewed toward internal, employee-facing projects. Among the projects reviewed, 59 per cent of the enterprise mobility applications have been developed for internal employees, 24 per cent target customers, and the remaining 19 per cent are for business partners.

SharePoint’s Search now upgraded by Microsoft

Microsoft in keeping with its push to be the productivity suite of choice today announced two new search features for SharePoint Online. These will be rolled out globally over the next few days. The new Content Search Web Part (CSWP) enhances overall search functionality and result displays, while Cross-Site Collection Publishing (CCP) gives users the ability to publish content on multiple sites from the same content source.

The new releases follow up on the full enterprise search Microsoft released earlier in the year. This show a commitment to search that many users will find reassuring given the difficulties some users experience when trying to finding and managing content in SharePoint.
