Gartner sees cloud computing and mobile development putting IT on edge

Consumer-driven forces challenge enterprise IT and application development today. Cloud computing, web information, mobile devices and social media innovations are converging to dramatically change modern organizations and their central IT shops. Industry analyst group Gartner Inc. describes these forces as forming a nexus, a connected group of phenomena, which is highly disruptive. A number of things are funneling together to cause major disruption to your environment. This could mean significant changes in skill sets required for enterprise application development. The cloud-client architecture will call for better design skills for front-end input.

In Mobile ads, iOS is still the most valuable platform; apps drive 73% of all revenues, says Opera

Facebook’s recent introduction of ads into its mobile platform is one key development, but some stats are proving harder to budge. The internet browser company Opera recently released its latest State of Mobile Advertising report, which indicates that, despite the growth of Android and other platforms, iOS continues to dominate when it comes to monetizing mobile ads. And despite all the effort that has been put into mobile web sites, the majority, nearly 73%, of all mobile ad revenues are coming from mobile apps.

The improving power of networking

The development of online professional networks is an excellent example of how Guardian News & Media can make money and do well. Surveys across the networks are a new initiative that has already seen outstanding results. Twenty two surveys conducted so far have included questions on topical issues such as the London riots and the Health and Social Care Act, as well as questions regarding jobs and events. This will enable members to tell us what they would like to see more of on the networks as they move forward.
